Author Interview with Josephine Marie Ayers

interviewed on Jul 26, 2019 New York
Josephine Marie Ayers is a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn NY, raised in the Hudson Valley, and moved to Western NY, Rochester, in 1974. She finished her degree in RN College in Western, NY and worked in many different specialties.
In 1994, after marrying David Ayers they moved to North San Diego County for 14 years for ministry. They have two married sons and five grandchildren.
In 2016, she started Flames of Fire Ministries, Inc. 501(c)3.
She has authored two books- "Kingdom Keys to Save a Nation", and "Women Living with Broken Men: A Christian Perspective".
Q. You have worked in varied fields before starting Flames of Fire Ministries Inc. in 2016. Tell us more about the professions you've worked in.
I am a licensed and registered RN in NY, and licensed RN in California, also a California Realtor, and Notary. Been ordained minister since late 90's.
Q. You are the President and Founder of 501(c) 3 Flames of Fire Ministries, Inc. With what vision in mind did you start this ministry and what all are you doing?
I started the ministry as I felt directed by the Lord. The main focus at that point was to teach the body of Christ about the authority they carry , that Jesus gave us and for them to begin using it. It has evolved as a training and equipping ministry.
There is a prayer ministry, jail ministry, prophetic ministry, speaking ministry, and writing ministry now underneath Flames of Fire, incorporating other leaders.
Q. How did your writing journey begin and how has it been so far?
I always felt a book was brewing. Started in 1977. But the first book, started about 5 years ago, when I was writing a weekly meditation on a closed group FB prayer page. It got turned into my first book, Kingdom Keys to Save a Nation. I also write for four online prophetic streams, and Charisma Magazine. Starting soon, I will be a monthly featured writer for Daysman Press, Christian online magazine "Out of Chicago", under Global Prophetic Voice.
Q. Tell us about your first book, "Kingdom Keys to Save a Nation".
As I said above how that got started. It is a download how us as individuals can save our nation.
Q. What is your second book "Women Living with Broken Men: A Christian Perspective" all about?
"Women Living with Broken Men" is a painful reality in our society, for both men and women. The subtitle, "A Christian Perspective" offers practical and spiritual lifelines from real experiences to offer hope and possible resolutions to both genders! The book highlights not only a personal testimony but also offers healthy perspectives, with regard to brokenness that would catapult one into hope for the difficult journey. It also gives illumination to the fact that our enemy is not the people in our lives, but a strategy of the enemy to destroy the basic unit God created, the family.
Q. "Women Living with Broken Men: A Christian Perspective", offers a Plan B solution to keeping relationships healthy. What advice would you like to give couples going through similar situations like yours?
To realize that none of us are perfect and there is always a reason why brokenness manifests in people. 'You cannot get Orange juice from a Grapefruit'. Also even in difficult relationships, it is possible to make changes even if it is only one person. When one individual changes the other will by default because the 'usual' dynamics no longer exist. Getting our relationship plum with God is key!
Q. The chapter written by your husband, David also gives important insights. Can you elaborate on the perspective he shares?
It took him years to realize he was 'broken'. He offers advice to men to embrace their brokenness and then if they cannot change do what they need to, to stop the hurt. In our case, we just do not live together. But we see each other, every other weekend. His condition is sliding downward, but we have stopped expecting things from each other we cannot give, and just enjoying the 'moments' together. He is the biggest intercessor for my ministry, and a very integral part. I do not think there is a book like this out there.
Q. You give a lot of real life examples and references from scriptures in your book. To what extent do you feel this encourages people to understand and follow what is being said?
Well, how do you know the lie? You have to know the truth first. When we understand God's nature, His love, grace and mercy, and we seek to please Him, all things are possible. Not because I said it, the bible actually says it. We have lived it, on a personal level, as well as those 5 individuals that wrote their stories anonymously.
Q. What difference do you want to bring out in this world through your books?
That there is always, HOPE! Have you watched the news lately. It would lend itself to hopelessness. Not so! Also God wants to save families at all cost. The devil destroyed the first family , Adam and Eve. God is restorative and redemptive. Because broken people without help, make more broken people. He is aiming to break this cycle. I am not the only ministry out there aiming at this goal!
Q. Do you want to share a few of your favorite lines from any of your books?
The Chapter Names tell all. Like Perspective, Game Changers for God, You Cannot get Orange juice from a Grapefruit etc.
Q. Tell us about some memorable incidents from your life which restored your faith in God.
WOW, that is a loaded question! So many , too numerable to count. But at one point we lost everything in Cali. God send us there in 1994 for ministry, with only 5k and no jobs. It was amazing how it all went together. Then we lost it all , and now we have more than we had before, and did not have to work for it. God's word to us there was, 'you take care of my people, and I will take care of you'. We have obeyed, and He has and is living up to that promise! I am on my way to writing my autobiography.
Q. How would you explain Christianity and the concept of faith and Jesus to non-believers?
"John 3:16 Amplified Bible (AMP)
16 “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] [a]only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.
It's a new life every day with Jesus. Yes I have trials, but HE is always there with me through them, and 28 Romans 8:28 Amplified Bible (AMP)
28 And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.AMP

Romans 8:29 Amplified Bible (AMP)29 For those whom He foreknew [and loved and chose beforehand], He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son [and ultimately share in His complete sanctification], so that He would be the firstborn [the most beloved and honored] among many believers.
Finally, Faith makes things possible , not easy. But when I let HIM lead me and guide me I have so much favor and blessing, I cannot quantify it accurately.
Q. How much time did you take to complete writing and publishing both your books?
The writing of the first three months, the second about that. It was editing and publishing issues, mid stream publisher changes etc, that slowed it all down.
Q. What else apart from writing holds a special place in your life?
Music, I play guitar and am refreshing with keyboard. I love to worship ! Of course my two sons, grandchildren, #5 of them. Making sure my husband is taken care of well. I have the most awesome friends. I love cooking! I am BLESSED WOMAN!
Q. Do you remember the first story or poem you ever wrote? Tell us about it.
I started writing corporate prophetic words in California.
Q. Talk to us about your growing years and your home. How did all this influence your writing?
If you are talking about my family of origin, I grew up on a 28 acre apple farm in rural NY. I spent tons of time around grown ups, only child, and am very introspective. I accelerated at Academia, I love to read and learn. I had an tremendous vocabulary from watching game shows , as a kid. I am sure this all played a part, and mostly life experience and GOD has always been primo in my life.
Q. Are you currently writing or planning to write more books? What stage are they at?
Yes. They are at title stage. I have been focusing on writing blogs, WORDS, and they are being published by multiple entities.
Q. What is your writing process, a typical writing day routine?
I don't have one. If I get the 'unction' and the 'download', I sit and write.
Q. What book marketing techniques have been the most effective for you?
Facebook has been the biggest. I have done book signings, I have two trailers. Word of mouth, conferences are big . Still evolving. I plan on trying to get into big box stores. Good News, NY .
Q. What do you think makes a book sell, or makes a reader buy it?
I think the title and subtitle if used, has to be a grabber, and offer to fill a 'need'! Also the foreword, and endorsements of those that you chose to read it.
Q. What’s the most moving or affecting thing a reader has said to you?
All of my readers have said they enjoy the 'conversational' way that I write in. Like I was sitting down next to them , having a chat. It is the largest of all the comments I get. Also that it has offered males and females alike hope. My primary doctor has read it , and he loved it. I have been giving them out in the jail I minister in... and more.
Q. Who are your favourite three authors and what do you like the most about them?
Sean Bolz, Mike Bickle, Graham Cook
Q. Tell us about your publishing journey and how easy (or difficult) was it to get all your books published?
I had a rough start finding the right publisher, went through 2! I would say to many brand names do not bring a 'deal'. Self publish is the way to go. I have a great publisher and editor, now. Very happy .
Q. What challenges do you think are faced by writers, what’s the worst thing about the book industry according to you?
The bigger names do not bring the best deal, and nothing is for FREE!
Q. At, we are trying to bring authors and readers under the same roof, to connect, discuss and socialize over books. What's your take on this?
I think that is a great idea. Would be neat to have an online forum, to share with others .
Q. What message do you want to share with budding writers?
Many things I could say, but these are the main points. Just sit down and write like you were talking to that person. Do not give up, even if you do not have the ending yet. It will come! Don't edit as you go, just write. Be very careful about publishers, read the fine print! When I re-read my stuff I seriously say, wow I wrote that. But I am truly inspired by the Holy Spirit, and I know those words came right from the heart of God. I give God all credit for anything good I have done. I am just 'jo'. • Great, especially how you've handled your relationship!
I respect your views about religion. But do you think, humanity and religion can be independent of each other and not always co-exist?
