Jacob August Riis was a American journalist. This Christian helped the impoverished in New York City; those needy were the focus of much of his writing. In his youth in Denmark he read Dickens and J.F. Cooper; his works exhibit the story-telling skills acquired under the tutelage of many English-speaking writers....more
